How to Fix Windows Update Error Code 800F0902

Have you ever gotten the error code 800F0902 each time you try to download and install Windows Update? If the answer to the question is yes, then you are not the only one. there are many users who are facing the same issue. In most cases, this error occurs in Windows 7. Almost every user want to have the newest version of Windows. Unfortunately, in a lot of time you just cannot do it because of some errors.

There can be a lot of reasons for this error code 800F0902. Some of the reasons include no Internet connection, the corrupt system files, the issue of Windows Update service, the issue of Windows module installer service, and so on.

There are about three methods for you that can you try to fix this error code 800F0902. The first one is renaming the software distribution folder. In this first method, you will have to deal with Windows Update service and software distribution folder. Before renaming the software distribution folder, the first thing you have to do is to stop the service of Windows Update by typing commands in Command Prompt. To do this, you have to open Command Prompt as Administrator by clicking on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator. In the step two, type “net stop wuaserv” and hit the Enter button. This one will stop the service of Windows Update. Then, type “ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old” before hitting the Enter button. This step will rename the software distribution folder. The next step is to type “net start wuauserv” and hit the Enter button. The service of the Windows Update will be started again in this step. Lastly, please simply close Command Prompt or type Exit and hit the Enter button. After doing all the steps above, please go back and check for Windows Update again and check the existence of the error.

The second one is restarting Windows Module Installer service. To perform this method, you have to click on Start. Then, type “Service.msc” in the search and hit the Enter button. Please find Windows Module Installer service from the list Services shown. Just scroll down to the bottom to find it. the next thing you have  to do is to click on it and open its Properties. There will be “Start” and “Stop” options shown in general tab. Afterward, click on Stop. Do the same instruction and then click on Start. In the last step after you just restarted the service, please go and check for Windows Update. With this method, you should be not getting the error code 800F0902.


The last method is scanning for the corrupt system files. There is an inbuilt tool that is able to scan for the corrupt system files in Windows. This one can work very well and sometimes it fix the computer. To do this, open Command Prompt as Administrator and type ‘sfc/scannow” before hitting the Enter button. This thing will take some time because there will be a lot of files to be scanned. It will show the corrupted files when the scan is done, if there is any. That file will be replaced. Please go to windows Update and check for the updates when the process is done.
